Matthew Murray from the Lyme Community created “Lyme Awareness In Action” with the goal being to create a unified voice for today’s youth about our environment and Lyme Disease. The objective is to motivate today's youth to be active in the outdoors while educating them about the affect their surroundings can have on their health.
This will be achieved with events that produce active participation through healthy recreation and awareness participation in the outdoors for our youth. The educational objective goes beyond being aware of ticks and detecting Lyme Disease, but also encouraging our youth to create a smaller footprint for the environment.
The first awareness event / campaign is Matthew Murray running the NYC Marathon to create and establish the initial message of the cause to the masses.
Lyme disease was first recognized over 30 years ago, yet it is the fastest-growing infectious disease in America and illnesses have been reported in all 50 states and around the world. Insurance companies reported last year in Germany and Sweden 782,000 new cases.
